Shawn McCarthy, ’81, a former columnist at The Bona Venture, has published his 10th book.
“Local Honey” is a work of historical fiction set in 1951. It’s a deep glimpse into a small town on the edge of change, and it raises questions about trust, second chances, class and who really gets to belong.
The scenes range from the New England seashore, rural farms, the gritty slums of Boston and brief battlefield flashbacks. It’s been called a story of post-war America’s haves vs. have-nots — part love triangle, part class struggle, and part dreamy window into the lost New England of the 1950s.
