Helen Ruggieri, who earned a graduate degree from SBU in 1972, has authored a new book of poetry, “The Sapphires.”
Ruggieri has published close to 200 poems in magazines, academic journals and anthologies. She is the author of several books of poetry, chapter books, and two books of creative nonfiction. She taught for 20 years at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and led writing workshops for the Mental Health Association of Cattaraugus County, the African American Center for Cultural Development, and at Olean Public Library, where she coordinated a reading series.
