W.E. “Bill” Wynne, ’68, hopes his debut book, “Understanding and Combating Racism: My Path from Oblivious American to Evolving Activist,” will not only explain his journey of enlightenment about how and why systemic racism continues to exist in America, but also to help others see what he’s seen, learn from his journey, and act in a positive way to minimize it.
Wynne had earlier found himself to be “educated but untaught, involved but unknowing, Catholic but spiritually reserved, white but unwittingly blinded by the ubiquitous whiteness surrounding him.” Over the years, these realizations caused him to turn his interest to racial and social justice concerns, a passion that has evolved throughout his adult life.
In his book, Wynne draws upon his work in the nonprofit sector, a decades-long engagement in which he held leadership roles in many church and community organizations, and his friendships with a diverse group of people and professionals to present his “Path from Oblivious American to Evolving Activist.”
