The newest picture book illustrated by Heather Harris, an assistant professor and director of the Communications graduate program at St. Bonaventure, earned two honorable mention awards by the Purple Dragonfly children’s book awards.
The book, “The Monster in My Basement,” received awards for the categories of “Best Illustrations” and “Picture Book 5 and Younger.”
“The Monster,” a heartwarming story about friendship and first impressions, began as a song. The music and lyrics are included in the book, and a QR code invites readers to join the author in a rousing rendition of the clever song that gets kids up and shake-shake-shaking. “The Monster” was written by Dave Preston.
Harris has five published picture books, two of which she authored and illustrated. She holds an MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
The Purple Dragonfly Book Awards recognizes excellence in children’s literature.
